Is India becoming the epicentre of Covid19?
After reporting a record spike of more than 1 lakh new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, India reported 96,580 fresh infections and 440 deaths as of Monday night.
As India recorded the highest single-day rise of 1.03 lakh new coronavirus cases, the Centre has convened another round of meetings with chief ministers and state health ministers over the next three days to discuss the situation. Meanwhile, Delhi is reporting the fourth wave of coronavirus. According to the reports, Delhi is also considering imposing night curfew in view of the rising infection cases.
This comes a day after Maharashtra imposed full lockdown on weekends and fresh restrictions to last through April, but just two days before, it kept silent about any such plans during the high-level review meeting chaired by the Cabinet Secretary on Friday.
Maharashtra reported 47,288 infections, accounting for nearly 49% of the new cases, followed by Chhattisgarh – 7,302 and Karnataka – 5,279. Maharashtra also recorded – 155 casualties, followed by Punjab – 72 and Chhattisgarh – 38.
